OVERVIEW of Kapton® HN Polyimide Film
Kapton® Film (Type HN Kapton) polyimide film from DuPont has more than 50 years of proven performance as the flexible material of choice in applications involving very high, 400°C (752°F), or very low, -269°C (-452°F) temperature extremes. Kapton polyimide film is used in a wide variety of applications such as substrates for flexible printed circuits, transformer and capacitor insulation, sensors and bar code labels. Kapton Film is also used for wire and cable tapes, formed coil insulation, substrates for flexible printed circuits, motor slot liners, magnet wire insulation, transformer and capacitor insulation, magnetic and pressure-sensitive tapes, and tubing Kapton® polyimide film possesses a unique combination of properties that make it ideal for a variety of applications in many different industries. The ability of Kapton® to maintain its excellent physical, electrical, and mechanical properties over a wide temperature range has opened new design and application areas to plastic films. DuPont ™ Kapton® HN film excels in low and high temperature environments. Type HN Kapton film can be laminated, metallized, punched, formed, or adhesive coated. It is available in thicknesses from 0.0003" (7.5 µm) up to 0.005" (125 µm). Other grades of Kapton are available with the following attributes: antistatic, thermally conductive, ptfe coated, cryogenic insulation, corona resistant, etchable, pigmented for color, and conformable.
